Since Becoming A Doula

I am amazed at the amount of lives I have been able to touch since becoming a doula! Every single one has given me the opportunity to be in the presence of a new life coming into the world… leaving the comfort and safety of their mother’s womb and joining us Earthside! Then there are the mothers that continue to reach out to me for my encouragement, understanding , experience, authenticity , wisdom, knowledge, friendship and lastly advice even after our doula client relationship is done. It humbles and excites me at the same time! It is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING feeling! I get emotional when I think about it!

Becoming a Doula has given me new experiences EVERY single time! Like, we know that no two pregnancies , experiences of labor, and ultimately giving birth are the same! They may have some similarities, but definitely not the same! Let me tell you what I have gained since becoming a Doula!

Since I have become a doula I have gained so much from giving! Giving my support, my knowledge, and my time! I have been able to support 37 families! I have supported family, friends, and women looking for a kind, caring, and knowledgeable doula ! I have met women from all different backgrounds. I have been able to witness women and their partners becoming parents for the 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd time!! Let me tell you, they are ALL excited and elated to meet the new little person that they have created! I have gained an intimate insight on decision making during this life changing experience to bringing a new life into the world.

I have meet 39 little people! All precious and loved! I have been blessed to hear the first cries of a new life entering in the world! Even the one over the phone gave me all the feels! It is an awesome, amazing , and beautiful sound! I am soo lucky to be able to witness such beauty! I have been able to support a mom and friend whose little baby girl’s visit Earthside was brief. She left a huge impact and will always be cherished remembered.

I have learned from each and every family that I have worked with! I have learned to listen, to offer support in a way that I had not thought of. I have learned different techniques to help mothers during their labor and birth. I learned to be quite when necessary and vocal when I need to be.

I have gained new friends since becoming a doula. Like how awesome to meet a woman as a stranger and then become one of the people they count on for support, for guidance, for education! Those aforementioned come with being a doula. However I have been there as a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on. I have laughed and shared meals with women who started out as a potential client to ultimately being a friend.

I just wanted to take this time to reflect on the Amazing Journey I have been on since becoming a doula! Yes becoming a doula helps me to support and take care of my family! It is my dream job, I LOVE being a Doula! Like I have said many times before this is truly a labor of love, and my passion! As much as families will need me, I too need them! Thank you for choosing me to be your doula!

As we move on into 2021 with the new normal of living and surviving Covid-19 I plan to continue to make sure the families I serve are educated, informed, and empowered!
